If you’ve ever been to the North Shore of Oahu in December, you know it pretty amazing. The best surfers in the world are all out there, shoulder to shoulder with the Average Joes, surfing waves in between contests. It’s like playing a pickup game of basketball on the court at your local park and having Lebron James and James Harden show up. Kelly Slater and John John Florence have been friends for a long time — since John was just a little kid paddling out at Sunset, in fact — so it’s not a huge surprise that they recently had a pretty dang good session together at a North Shore sandbar. It was just a few days after the 2020 Pipe Masters in which John won his first Pipe Masters trophy (and Kelly burned John), and despite the fact that both John John Florence and Kelly Slater are two of the most accomplished surfers on earth, it’s obvious they’re still just as frothy as a kid who’s just getting the hang of it.
