The Inertia

Over the last few weeks of Kelly Slater’s annual stint on the North Shore, the GOAT’s entourage has been a bit larger than normal. That’s because a camera crew from the network that knows a thing or two about entourages (HBO) has been tailing the 11-time world champion with cinema-quality cameras for a forthcoming episode of its landmark series 24/7 since he arrived in Hawaii.

Typically, the series follows storylines in more traditional team sports – namely, football – and since 2007 has garnered some 18 Emmy awards. But now, perhaps due to the success of Momentum Generation to which HBO purchased the rights, the series will focus squarely on Robert Kelly Slater as he prepares for the 2019 Billabong Pipe Masters in what many are speculating may be his last year on tour full time. Though at the end of the trailer above he says plainly, “I want to be out when the battery is just done.”

The above is our first look at the fruits of Kelly Slater’s North Shore HBO detail, and if it’s any indication it’ll likely be pretty damn good. Color us intrigued.

The full episode drops Tuesday, December 3rd at 9 p.m.
