The Inertia

Kelly Slater has his fingers in many pies. He has many pots on the stove, many irons in the fire, etcetera. He does a lot. Surf Ranch. Outerknown. Slater Designs. Purps.  You get the idea — he’s a busy guy. And he just added another thing to the list: a fin brand called Endorfins.

Slater is a man who is really into design. Fins, surfboards, clothing… he wants to create it. For years, the intricacies and tiny details of fins have intrigued him. You don’t, after all, get to be the GOAT without paying very close attention to your equipment. “Most people who know me know how into fin design I am,” he wrote on Instagram, “so I’m excited to announce the launch of our new brand ‘ENDORFINS’ tonight.”

According to Slater, Endorfins have been almost two years in the making. Interestingly, the fins weigh so little they’re able to actually float, and they come in twin/hybrid, quad, and thruster set ups. “These fins are the most freeing and simultaneously drivey fins we’ve ever ridden,” the press release says.

As is generally the case with something Kelly puts his name on, Endorfins are as green (not literally) as possible. “We believe as surfers we have a responsibility to make fins as eco-friendly as possible and ensure we keep our ocean floor free from lost and broken fins,” Firewire writes. “Endorfins are designed to be screwed into the fin box to secure the base of the fin and allow the carbon flex patterns to truly come to life. In addition, we have also designed the fins to float so they can be retrieved from the ocean if needed.”

The best part? Whether you’ve got FCSII or Futures boxes, Endorfins will fit. If you’ve got Futures boxes, they’ll work just like a set of Futures fins. If you’ve got those snap-in FCSII, the fins require two screws that will come with the fins. They won’t click in or out, however. According to the website, they’re made from “carbon twill combined with an ultralight, non-woven carbon veil” that will “optimize the engineered flex patterns.”

No word yet on whether a set will win you eleven world titles, but fingers crossed, right?
