The Inertia

Kelly Slater is what you’d call a “high-performance surfer.” He is, as his 11 world titles speak to, pretty good at riding a surfboard. As such, his surfboards are generally not all that great for the Average Joe, but because he’s Kelly Slater, many surfers make the mistake of trying to surf the boards he surfs.

It’s not the board that makes the surfer, however, and so far no one has won 11 world titles because they’re riding the same surfboards as Kelly. But, since Kelly is in the surfboard sales game, he’s worked alongside Dan Mann to make a performance surfboard that’s a little more focused on that Average Joe.

“Our most user-friendly, pure performance shape ever,” Firewire writes about the new shape. “The S Boss combines Kelly Slater’s pursuit of high-performance progression with Dan Mann’s mission to make performance surfing accessible to all by design.”

The S Boss has a bit less rocker than something Slater might traditionally ride. The fin cluster is positioned in such a way that it’s a little more forgiving. The outline is relatively full and they’ve managed to hide a lot of volume in it. “The S Boss is a true universal surfboard built to unlock progression across all conditions and skill levels,” Firewire explains.

The board is almost reminiscent of the Omni and the Dominator, and although it’s got five fin boxes, it’s recommended that it is ridden as a quad. Looks like a fun little sled, doesn’t it?
