This film was shot in Sumatra and has some interesting POV angles that I am really happy with, especially some of the air shots. I found them extremely hard to frame and land as my extended back arm holding a homemade camera pole mount tended to throw my center of balance off quite a bit.
I really love the combination of surfing, film and music; the escapism it offers the surf stoked viewer really is something special. It has been a passion I have indulged in for many years. Ever since watching George Greenough’s epic pioneering tube footage and Jack McCoy’s excellent water shots, I have been transfixed on how waves and water moved and danced.
Now with the explosion of tiny high definition waterproof cameras, what can be captured in the surf is mind-blowing. I spent a month in Indonesia fiddling with homemade pole mounts and paddling them around the line up in my teeth trying to dodge heavy set waves on the way back out that would likely see me lose my teeth. This clip is the gold that was left after a tiresome editing process and deliberation over each and every drop of water and light.
