The Inertia

The 2023 U.S. Air Force Super Girl Surf Pro took place this weekend. This year, Keala Tomoda-Bannert took first place out of a pool with many of the top women’s surfers in the world.

This was the first Super Girl Surf Pro victory for Keala Tomoda-Bannert. Her final heat against fellow Hawaiian Nora Liotta was a dominant victory. Tomoda-Bannert posted the best performance of the day, with 9.0 and 8.0 rides, for a total of 17.0 to Liotta’s 10.77. Her win at the WQS3000 event also clinched Tomoda-Bannert the 2023/2024 Hawaii/Tahiti Nui QS Regional title. Tomoda-Bannert now joins the ranks of previous Super Girl Surf Pro Jacksonville winners Caroline Marks and Alyssa Spencer.

The Super Girl Surf Pro bills itself as the only large-scale all-women’s action sports, esports and lifestyle series in the world. The series began in 2007 in Oceanside, but has since expanded to include the event in Jacksonville. This is the third year of the east coast arm of the series that includes not only surfing, but a host of other activities, including skateboarding, beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach lacrosse, including concerts, classes and speakers.
