Owl Chapman is a legend. After moving to Hawaii in the late ’60s, he quickly became a staple in the lineup. He dominated at Sunset and Pipeline, and played a big part in how surfing shaped up.
Kalani Chapman is a bit of a legend on his own. Fearless in big waves, Kalani is one of the standout guys at Pipeline. In this episode of Epic TV’s Board Stories, Kalani walks us through catching one the best waves of his life on a 9’6 single fin that Owl shaped specifically for giant Pipeline. “I faded and it just hit the reef like no other wave I had ever seen,” Kalani remembered. “A split second later, I was knew I was going to be okay. The board was made for that wave. And I’ll call it now, I still think that was the biggest tube ever ridden at Pipe.”
