Kala Alexander and Makuakai Rothman are both incredible surfers. Kala, of course, is the man who started the Wolfpak, while Makuakai is the son of Eddie, who started Da Hui. If you’ve traveled to Hawaii or surfed for more than a day, you’ve heard tales of both groups, most of which are probably not quite as bad as they’re made out to be… although they might be. While one would never want to collide with anyone, anywhere, smashing into either Kala or Makua would definitely be something to avoid a little more than say, smashing into Glenn Hall.
Makua is a world champion big wave surfer. Kala, a sensational big wave guy in his own right. And when shit gets really hairy at Waimea Bay, there are bound to be collisions. This one, however, is brutal. We’ve all crossed paths (literally) with another surfer at some point. But who can say they’ve crossed paths on a wave as big as this?
