There are few people on the North Shore who command as much respect as Kaimana Henry. He comes from a family in love with the ocean, and his knowledge of it and comfort in it is strikingly apparent. He’s a big man—intimidating looks and intimidating surfing make him seem like someone to be wary of—but he’s known as something of a gentle giant. He doesn’t command respect because of fear, he commands respect because he earns it. As is the case with many who call Hawaii home, the people he surrounds himself are important to him, and his sense of community was ingrained in him by the place he grew up. As the man in charge of the Volcom house, Kaimana has been a staple in the most revered surfing community on earth, and the video he recently released shows why.
“Been trying to put together a project going on three years now but don’t really know what I’m doing so bear with me,” he says in the description. “Here are a couple waves from 17′-18′ winter season that didn’t make the cut. ‘278D’ is what you would tell 911 to describe your location from PIPELINE.”
