Kai Lenny lives on a different plane than any other surfer. He does things in big waves that no one else on Earth does, and he does it with an astounding frequency. The video you see above was shot after the Pe’ahi Big Wave Challenge was called off because organizers deemed the waves too big for a big-wave surf contest. It was completely maxed out for a paddle session, so Kai decided it was the perfect opportunity to get on the rope.
“Kai surfed for hours alone with a few other big-wave surfers and he took things to a whole new level during the ‘Kai Lenny Show’,” wrote Marcus Rodrigues on YouTube, “riding these waves like they were normal waves at a beach break.”
Lenny knew the swell would peak around two in the afternoon, and he made sure he was in the water at the right time. Sure enough, at around 2 p.m., Victor Lopez pulled Lenny into a wave so big it won the Biggest Ride of the Year.
