Kai Lenny and Jaws go together like peanut butter and jelly. Summertime and surfing. Bonnie and Clyde. Tuesdays and tacos. It’s like they were made for each other.
On February 25, a strong long period swell came through Maui and despite the wind and westerly swell direction, there were some solid sets hitting Peahi. And big-wave surfer Kai Lenny was there absolutely ripping. Naturally.
“The swell was much bigger than we anticipated,” says videographer Marcus Rodrigues. “It was windy and west but during the day there were some great XL moments. It was a crazy day with lots of windsurfing and surfing mixed together—it wasn’t giant Jaws but it was powerful and had great form when the sets came in.”
They day was full of windsurfing. Kitesurfing. Kai Lenny riding switch stance. Albee Layer towing into some bombs. A kitesurfer on an inflatable raft? It was madness. Watch for yourself. Here’s four minutes of big-wave surfing at its finest.
