Admittedly, I’d never seen or thought of wing foil fishing until I came across Kai Lenny giving it a swing. I had to look it up because, to be completely honest, A) I’m not into foiling. It doesn’t appeal to me. And B) the mental image immediately sounds like a totally new thing Kai Lenny would have dreamt up and started doing before anybody else…only because Laird didn’t start geeking around with the idea three decades earlier.
“I don’t think anything’s been as perfect for fishing as winging,” Lenny says.
It definitely kills two birds with one stone — catching dinner while getting some legitimate exercise out on the ocean. Sure enough, when Kai and his brother Ridge give it a go for the first time ever they snag a pretty impressive catch. It’s just one example of how busy Kai Lenny keeps himself. There’s an infinite number of ways the guy manages to get out into the ocean, from towing outer reefs to grabbing a wing to getting barreled at Pipe on a SUP, the list goes on.
