Time and time again, Kai Lenny has made a case for himself as the ultimate multi-hyphenate waterman. He’s probably most well known for his anxiety-triggering performances, big wave surfing in monstrous conditions at mythical breaks like Jaws or Cloudbreak. However, Kai’s game to ride basically any watercraft you can throw at him, from stand-up paddleboards to hydrofoils. He’s also not above doing some meme-able stunts, like e-foiling with a dog or getting towed by a horse.
In his latest video, Kai ditched the gimmicks and big-wave stunts for some good old fashioned high performance surfing. His craft of choice was a hydrofoil, which he took out to an idyllic reef break to get towed into waves by a jet ski. The resulting video is refreshingly spartan. There’s no monologues to camera, early morning driving footage, or even a soundtrack. It’s just five minutes and fifty-one seconds of solid ripping.
“One of the best foil waves I have ridden for performance foiling,” wrote Kai in the YouTube description. “From top to bottom on the reef is about a five-minute ride. I kept getting carried away with the air section that was on offer. Truly a dream foiling wave!”
