On March 28, a wild and wooly swell marched through Maverick’s. It was far from perfect, but the size was there. And when the size is there, Kai Lenny wants to be there too.
Maverick’s is a scary place. Cold, dark, and heavy, it’s a wave that’s claimed the lives of Mark Foo and Sion Milosky. It’s also a place where some of the best waves ever have been ridden, like Pete Mel’s Earth shaking ride in January, 2021.
Kai Lenny, as you are no doubt aware, is a man of many talents. He’s a guy who likes to not only try new things, but to master them before anyone else has really gotten their feet in the wax. He’s one of the best foilers on the planet, and when the waves are huge and bumpy, a foil smooths things out.
The issue for most, however, is that foiling isn’t all that accessible. But Kai Lenny, as he is wont to do, has it dialed. In this video from Powerlines Productions, he pulls out the wing and glides down the face of a few very big, very unruly waves.
