The Inertia

Kai Lenny has probably been to most of the best surf breaks in the world. So it’s surprising to hear him describe checking a new spot off of his bucket list. However, that’s exactly what he did in his most recent YouTube video, where he made a quick strike mission to the Mentawais to surf Lance’s Right for the first time.

Of course, to actually get there was a mission in and of itself. “Everything from planes, to ferries, to long car rides were all worth it to navigate around the globe to score this bucket list spot,” wrote Lenny in the description. When he finally arrived, he was greeted by three days of near-perfect surf, which he tackled in his characteristic multidisciplinary style. It wouldn’t be a Kai Lenny video if there wasn’t a preposterous variety of craft to be seen under his feet, from foils, to strapped boards, to traditional shortboards.

“It’s a really special place,” concluded Kai, as he sat on the beach after a session on the third day of his trip. “It’s been on my bucket list as a surfer for a long time, so to see it and actually realize the dream of riding this wave…yeah, it fired me up.”
