It’s been three weeks since Caroline Marks and Filipe Toledo won the WSL finals at Lower Trestles. However, multi-hyphenate waterman Kai Lenny just posted a video of him providing some live (at the time) analysis from the beach while the heats went down.
The segment hearkens back to Peter King’s web series Tour Notes, which is no coincidence. As Lenny explains in the description, “Peter, the creator of that show, shot this. The questions he would ask me on the rocks got me really thinking about the level of surfing on the biggest stage.”
Lenny shares some of his characteristically positive enthusiasm (saying things like, “I just want to see these guys tearing molecules apart!”), but also mixes in his fair share of insights, in the form of analysis of both the overall strategies employed in the mens final and specific techniques on display in individual waves. Nobody can break down a pro surfer’s performance better than another pro surfer.
