For every time, there truly is a season. Kai Lenny is more in tune with the seasons than perhaps any other surfer we’ve seen. And according to the 29-year-old Maui native, he’s about to enter a season of change. Lenny and longtime girlfriend, Molly Payne (sister of Dusty) recently announced they are expecting twins.
“And then there were FOUR! I can’t believe I’m gonna be a Dad to TWINS! About to drop into the greatest ride of my life,” he wrote on Instagram.
“We are so beyond excited to announce that we are having TWINS! Lenny Babies coming April, 2022,” Payne wrote.
Lenny has been on the leading edge of surf innovation for nearly a decade now, from aerial surfing, to big waves to foil and most anything in the wind. He recently released a book, Big Wave Surfer: The Greatest Rides of Our Lives, a photo tome with essays from Lenny featuring photography from the premier big-wave locales and the surfers who ride them. His surfing credentials are unparalleled, no doubt, but he’s about to pull into a “double up” that he probably didn’t see coming.
Mr. Lenny was pretty fired up, though. “Fortunately I have a great support system with my parents living down the street,” he said about the big change. “Most importantly, Molly is the best and will be such a great mother.”
Congrats to the new parents.
