Winching has become a bit of a thing in the last few years. People like Jamie O’Brien and Kai Lenny use them to fling themselves into things. Namely waves. Kai recently headed to Kahului Harbor on Maui to test one particular brand of winch.
As usual, he brought a wide variety of wave-sliding vehicles. A foil, a kiteboard, and a plain ol’ surfboard. As as is generally the case with winches, they need to be anchored pretty securely. Kai used a sand anchor, which is just a bag of sand in a hole. And when that was all done, he tried the winch — and while we’re not winch aficionados, doesn’t this one seem pretty dang quick?
