Julian Wilson is someone who we don’t see surfing outside of competition that much. That means, of course, that when we do see him, he’s pitted against the best surfers in the world. That can have the strange effect of diluting the broth — Wilson’s surfing is exceptional, but like anything else, exceptional becomes average when it’s compared with exceptional.
