Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 2012. Nike was still pits-deep in the surf game with Julian Wilson, Kolohe Andino, and Carissa Moore rounding out their roster. Pro surfing was pushing the term “athletes,” and otherwise professionalizing the sport – three years later the Association of Surfing Professionals would change its name to the World Surf League. And this was well before dad-life Jules, and before he’d tied the knot.
In that year, Nike flew Julian to Indo to gather clips and do a little pink boardshort R+D. Beyond the stickers on his board and the logos on his tees, you’d be forgiven if you thought the above was a brand new clip. Wilson’s approach has changed little, and the man’s as baby-faced now as back then. Most importantly it’s amazing that the level Jules was surfing at seven years ago, eons in internet terms, holds up extremely well now.
