The Inertia

Jordy Smith was an animal through the extent of the Hurley Pro Trestles. On Wednesday, I happened to be on the sand – er, rocks – watching Jordy go tit-for-tat with event wildcard Evan Geiselman in round 3.

Evan was surfing well, but the South African was surfing better, flowing and linking turns with the flow and power befitting a world number 1. Jordy ultimately made it to the final, and was taken out by an equally in-form Filipe Toledo, but before that he surfed against Frederico Morais in the quarters, and he may have performed the most epic claim ever seen (click to 6:26 in the video above).

On a wave later awarded a 9.43, Jordy finished the sucker off with crossed arms and double shakas facing the judges then tearing them down in a fury as if his Wolverine claws were out. Best claim ever? You be the judge.
