The Inertia

Jordy Smith just won his first Championship Tour event in seven years. The moment came at the just-wrapped 2025 Surf City El Salvador Pro, where he and Gabriela Bryan ventured out into the lineup of Punta Roca and came back with gold and glory. Though the tour’s eyes are already fixed on Australia for the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, that doesn’t mean we can’t take a moment to revisit his momentous win. And what better way to do that than from the eyes of Jordy himself – with a new behind-the-scenes video posted to his YouTube channel.

“I can’t believe it,” says Smith at the top of the edit, looking back on how the whole thing went down. “The feeling, going into the contest, it was definitely ‘Lets just surf, Jords.’ That’s what I’ve been telling myself this whole week.”

He certainly did that, and then some, because Smith’s path to the podium was hard fought. In the quarterfinals, he was matched up against 2019 champ Italo Ferreira, followed by a semifinal bout against CT up and comer Cole Houshmand. In the end, the whole thing came down to a face off against Matthew McGillivray (that heat was also notable for being the first all-South African final in four decades). If anyone could face that rogue’s gallery of surfers and come out on top, it’s Jordy Smith.
