The Inertia

John John Florence just won his second world title. Everyone knew it was going to happen. He is, after all, a far better surfer than anyone else on the planet and there is no denying it. Don’t try. DON’T. Deny that he’s not the best competitive surfer on the planet all you want, though.

It was a long time coming, this disgusting display of domination. John John was the second-most hyped kid (after Kolohe, of course) that surfing has ever seen. While Kolohe has struggled a bit to live up to it (he’s biding his time!), John John quietly began making it very clear that no one on earth could surf as well as him. That’s because he’s just been doing it for so damn long. Since he was two!

Hell, he was towing outer reef bombs when he was barely a teen. He competed with his heroes when he was 13, and didn’t even look all that out of place. Here’s a look back at JJF’s rise to becoming the surfer he is today, courtesy of a profile from 2006. Watch the whole thing HERE.
