The HIC Pipe Pro is in the can, and John John Florence can lay claim to another win at home. With three straight wins on home soil, the two-time world champ became the winningest surfer on the most iconic stretch of coastline. The conditions were classic Pipeline, especially on Finals day. It came down to a brother versus brother matchup between John John and Ivan Florence, but Ivan wasn’t able to take down his older brother. He did, however, manage to score a perfect 10, which likely felt just as good as a win.
“It feels so amazing just to win this event,” John John said. “Especially after Haleiwa, too. I was actually a little bit nervous. There are a lot of really good surfers in this event. It was just fun to get back into the rhythm and be competing out here again and getting ready for what’s to come in the next few months.”
