This is John John Florence out at Restaurants in his inaugural year competing in Fiji in 2012. It was the day after that super swell, and the event was called on at Restaurants. Needless to say, John John was a standout, threading through impossibly long barrels on his backhand. I think he got barreled four times on this wave and came in with a close-to-perfect heat score of 19.30. His skills in the South Pacific are not lost on the Tavarua ladies working in the kitchen, who have claimed him as their new prince… after King Kelly, that is.
