John John Florence is a man who loves the ocean. Surfing, of course, but pretty much anything else in it or on it, too. Sailing is a huge part of his life, but now he’s selling the Vela, the catamaran he bought from Travis Rice.
After he got it from Rice, Florence renamed the vessel and decided to take it on a 2,500 mile journey to the Palmyra Atoll in the Line Islands. The trip was the basis for a beautifully done mini-series, and it certainly looked like a bucket list item for the world champion. But all good things must come to an end, so Florence decided to put the 48-foot gunboat up for sale for a whopping US $1,349,000.
Currently docked in New Zealand, the Vela is an impressive craft. “Lightweight, robust, and featuring North 3di technology flying from a Marstrom Carbon mast supported by ECsix carbon rigging, the Gunboat 48 strikes the balance between performance and comfort in a manner rarely seen on performance catamarans under 50 feet,” the listing reads. “The saloon space flows beautifully into the hulls and forward into the forward cockpit, sail handling area which of course leaves the aft cockpit space open and free for socializing and watching the world go by. Recently returning to her original metallic blue hull color with black accenting provided by the forebeam, mast and trampolines, Vela is champing at the bit to get back to exploring!”
So if you’ve got an extra $1.3 million lying around and you’re looking for something to take on your next adventure, the Vela might be a pretty decent fit.
