The Inertia

You don’t see a lot of hooded rashguards in lineups these days. Or other days, either. Hooded rashguards aren’t a total hit, but if John John Florence has anything to say about it, they will be. The video above, which comes from Florence Marine X, is an ad for them. They’re gaining steam with a handful of surfers, and if history is anything to judge by, a little nudge from a high-profile person can push a product into a hell of a lot of hands.

“It’s been really cool to wear what we create and have that opportunity to improve it,” Florence wrote. “The hooded rashguard is probably the product that has surprised me the most in that process. It wasn’t something I thought about growing up around the ocean, but using it now has really changed the amount of time I’m able to spend in the water freesurfing.”

According to the Florence Marine X website, the hooded rashies — called “Utility UPF Tops” — are engineered with breathable panels, antimicrobial fabric, and 30-50 UPF+. That means you don’t have to worry about missing that spot in the middle of your back with sunscreen anymore. Of course, they’re not much good if you surf somewhere cold, but hey, here’s hoping you live somewhere with warm water and perfect waves.
