The Inertia

John John Florence surfs like a guy who grew up sipping on that famous Hawaiian juice. The waves there are a little different than anywhere else. Punchier. Heavier. Juicier. John’s surfing matches power with power. And if there’s one place on the North Shore full of that juice, it’s Haleiwa.

He knows the place well, since he’s been surfing there since he was a kid. “Haleiwa has always been one of my favorite waves,” he wrote. “It’s pretty fun to think back on surfing heats at the Menehune Contest with the same friends I surf with today.”

John’s got quite the history with the wave at Haleiwa — rewatch this single turn, please — and it’s clear that he’s got the place about as wired as one can have it wired.
