No one can deny that John John Florence has had a dream run this season. After Matt Wilkinson surprised everyone and took a very early lead in the title race, the guy everyone knew was the best surfer in the world quietly made his way up the rankings. Along the way to becoming the 2016 World Champion, he also won the most prestigious big wave event, The Eddie. As of Monday, John John Florence is also the winner of the Triple Crown.
Although he didn’t win the Billabong Pipe Masters (and it’s almost a sure thing that it’ll come soon), Florence wasn’t too upset. “I’ve had an amazing year,” he told Rosy Hodge in his post-heat interview. “I’m just stoked to be home and finish the year. It’s been a long year. Now I can just go surfing and take a break for a while.”
