John John Florence is not like the rest of us. But we all already knew that. Even within the context of an elite World Tour field, the man stands out in his heats. There is a certain composure in the most radical aerials, the steepest and deepest take offs. The man’s performances are just entertaining any way cut ’em, whether in a contest jersey or a mind-blowing reel of freesurf highlights.
The above clip is a great example — a Backdoor tube he should not have exited. But he did. Because John John.
The following clips are just as impressive:
This Casual Alley Oop Is Absurd:
It really is. So much height and in true Florence fashion there’s zero celebration or claim to punctuate riding out of it.
Making a North Shore Sand Bar Double Up Look Like Child’s Play:
Anybody who’s stood on a North Shore beach knows these sand bars are no joke when they double up like this. Anybody else would instinctively look to outrun the section, escaping a shorebreak closeout. John stalls.
Here’s a Pretty Mind-Blowing Freesurf Backflip:
This clip comes from a session leading up to the 2017 Margaret River Pro and as we all know, freesurfs are pretty legendary during the CT’s annual West Oz visit. Moments like this are exactly why. Everybody brings the heat.
How About Another Backy For Good Measure:
One thing you can put your finger on with Florence – the man is consistent.
