The 2024 WSL Championship Tour is set to kick off with its Pipeline event at the end of January. Though it’s sure to be an eventful opener, many believe that Pipe would have been more fitting as the location for the WSL finals. The current venue of Lower Trestles is a world-class spot, but critics say it lacks the nail-biting tension of a wave of consequence. Recently, John John Florence also counted himself among the advocates for a closing event at Pipeline. Despite all that, JJF has put his stamp of approval on the season-opening event by sponsoring it via his company FLORENCE MARINE X.
“I’m really proud to share that FLORENCE MARINE X will be sponsoring the WSL Pipe event,” read the announcement on John John’s Instagram. “Pipe has been my backyard and favorite wave for as long as I have been surfing. I’ve grown up watching and dreaming of being in these contests. And then one day I was in them, surfing with the same surfers I looked up to as a kid. To be able to support the event now is a dream come true.”
