John John Florence is able to do things on a surfboard that no one else can. His world titles prove that, but even more so is the constant reminders we get thanks to the wonders of the internet. Back in the day, photos waited months to appear in magazines and surf contests were barely televised, so standing on the beach was the surest way to get a glimpse for yourself. Now, though, when someone does something amazing, chances are high that you’ll see it somewhere online within a few hours.
The alley-oop that John John did above was shot during a blustery, onshore day at fairly large Backdoor. And it is, once again, proof that John John is probably an alien. He’s got the air pretty dialed, as we’ve seen before. But each time we see it, we can’t help but gasp.
