Joel Tudor may be most well-known as the Godfather of modern longboarding and its emphasis on a more traditional aesthetic in knee-to-shoulder-high stuff, but the man also famously has an almost paradoxical obsession with one of the most high-performance waves in the world: Pipeline.
Unlike most Pipe specialists, though, Tudor favors craft reminiscent of Pipe’s halcyon days – often single fin or 2+1 down rail pintails – and has passed that equipment preference onto his son, Tosh.
The surf world’s collective North Shore residency has at this point mostly concluded, but now it’s time to step back and enjoy the fruits. The above is a collection of Joel Tudor and Tosh Tudor (and Al Knost!) trading waves all over the North Shore, but especially at Pipe. If it’s tough to tell the two apart, you’re in good company. Their respective approaches are nearly identical. And we mean that in the highest sense of praise for both parties. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
