There is never a dull moment on the North Shore of Oahu. Golf, tennis, horseback riding, snorkeling, hiking, scuba diving, whale watching; you name it, the North Shore has it. But when you’ve exhausted these activities and simply want to surf when the waves are flat, you just might be able to work around Mother Nature.
Surfers often dig a channel through the sand, releasing the Waimea River water trapped behind the beach. The result: an epic standing wave that provides hours and hours of fun. Best thing about river surfing? No paddle out.
