There are a lot of superlatives being tossed out surrounding the action that unfolded on the North Shore yesterday. Mark Healey’s monstrous Pipe tube was showered with praise – some claiming it’ll easily take Wave of the Winter. And the footage is only beginning to roll in.
Size-wise, Jay Davies’ wave here doesn’t compare to Healey’s, but Davies’ disappearing act illustrates some deft foam ball navigation. The surprise in the hoots and hollers behind the camera say it all. Anyone else (except maybe John John or Kelly Slater) would have likely fallen victim to the chandelier section. Davies powers through. And for that, he gets a standing O (we presume).
