The Inertia

Novelty waves are all the rage right now. There’s perhaps no novelty wave more famous than the Waimea River wave, and Jamie O’Brien has it dialed — much like he’s got the other waves on the North Shore dialed.

When it rains in Hawaii, it pours. The Waimea River swells before hitting the sand on the beach, and when all that water finally breaks through and makes its way into the bay, weird little standing waves form. They don’t last forever, and it’s a playground like none other.

But once Jamie is done with the river wave, the day’s not done. From there, he heads to Backdoor to find a few fun little tubes. All in a day’s work, as they say. And if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. Jamie O’Brien has that dialed, too.
