When the Waimea River is full to bursting, Jamie O’Brien is very likely hovering in the wings somewhere, leaning on a shovel. A few quick shovelfuls to get that water built up in the lagoon flowing towards the Bay, et voila: you’ve got a standing wave par excellence. It’s nothing new for Jamie, but one of the best things about surfing is that it never gets old.
The wave that forms when the Waimea River flows into that famous bay isn’t always quite as good as it was in the video above, however. It’s a little bigger than the norm and far glassier. And, as per usual, Jamie was there along with a whole crew of folks who’re into fresh water waves.
