There aren’t too many “secret spots” left in the world, let alone in a place like Southern California. Thanks to the rise in social media and the constant lust for new clips, the whole world has been blown up. But every now and then, a secret spot is only a secret spot because it so rarely breaks. Jamie O’Brien surfs as many of those as he can, though.
The wave by the Manhattan Beach Pier is not a secret spot. Not even close. It’s also not exactly “good” most of the time, but if you surf, you know that good waves don’t always correlate to a good time. Sure, they make it a little easier to have a good time, but if you’re surfing with good friends, laughing as much as you can, and maybe catching a few waves, you’re set. So after a one of those sessions at the pier, Jamie O’Brien headed off to meet up with Blair Conklin at a so-called “secret spot.” It’s not an actual secret spot, of course, but the frequency that it breaks basically makes it one. And on this particular day… it was firing.
