Surfing isn’t generally done in a place surrounded by concrete. Wave pools aside — and even those at least attempt some semblance of recreating nature — surfing is done at a beach or a river or even a lake. There is sand and wind and trees and water. It’s all very natural. But sometimes, surfing is done in the concrete jungle, like at this City Wave in Tokyo. City Wave is a man-made version of something like the wave at the Waimea river, and since Jamie O’Brien is the resident Waimea river wave expert, he decided he’d try his hand at the Japanese version.
But first, Pipeline.
