When Pipeline season fires up, the first few months are pretty wild. The excitement is palpable, even if you’re not in the water. The air feels different. A sense of nervous excitement floats through the aisles at Foodland, bounces off the cars parked on the side of the Kam Highway, and embeds itself in everyone’s smiles on the bike path. It’s a collective sense of happiness and nervousness, and there’s nothing quite like it. There have been quite a few good days at Pipe so far this year, and Jamie O’Brien has been on basically all of them. The one in the video you see above, however, is the one Jamie called “the best day of the year.” So far, that is.
