Jamie O’Brien is a fan of the weird wave. And the Wedge, Newport’s gem, is nothing if not a weird wave. Strange warbles sing on its face. Backwash creates strange, leaping lips that appear out of nowhere. And of course, the sand turns the whole thing into a sometimes-unthreadable tube that attracts surfers the world over.
Over Independence Day weekend, the Wedge went OFF. Technically, it sounds like surfing wasn’t allowed there… but Jamie O’Brien (along with a whole lot of other weird wave connoisseurs, was there to taste the forbidden fruit.
