Ocean Beach called and Zeke answered. Out of nowhere, Jacob Szekely got a heads up from longtime friend Skip McCullough that the San Francisco beach was about to be hit by some major swell. An hour later they were at the airport, board bags in hand. “I don’t think I’ve turned [up] so late on a trip in my entire life,” said Szekely in his latest vlog post documenting the journey.
“There’s a few swells in the water. Looks like one of them is 10 feet at 21 seconds. So, we’re just gonna go with that narrative,” said McCullough as he sat in the terminal, checking buoy readings on his phone. “I don’t know. I just hope it’s good.”
‘Good’ turned out to be an understatement. When the pair finally did arrive at Ocean Beach, they were rewarded with the type of board and body-breaking insanity that the famed wave is known for. Before heading out, Zeke and Skip spray-painted their boards neon green “So they can find my body if I drown…but also if I get a good ride, I want to get the clip,” Szekely wryly explained to the camera. From there on out, the footage speaks for itself.
