The Inertia

Jacob Szekely is in Barbados and it’s firing. He’s currently in town for the Barbados Surf Pro, a QS 5,000 event taking place at Soup Bowl, located in Bathsheba, Barbados. His latest video comes from the day before the event, with a warmup session that recalled a classic surf video from the very same break.

“Back in the tropics,” said Szekely to camera as he loaded up a rental car. “Just touched down in Barbados, stoked to be back down here for the WSL QS 5,000 and the waves are fucking firing, too. Just got a call from a couple of the boys. Soup Bowls is absolutely cooking. It’s doing that Josh Kerr thing, from that old Chris Ward and Mason Ho video.”

The video he’s referring to is most likely Kerrazy Kronicles, which features Kerr, Ward and Ho ripping at Soup Bowl, back in 2011. The comparison may be a bit of an overstatement, as it doesn’t have quite the picture-perfect barrels of Kerrazy (or many barrels at all, really). On the other hand, it’s hard to quibble when the conditions on tap for Zeke’s session really do look excellent.

After the requisite ogling the surf from the parking lot, Zeke mixed it up in the lineup. According to his post-session wrap-up, he was joined in the water by fellow QS competitors Cole McCaffray, Al Cleland, Josh Burke and Levi Slawson.

Now that the warmup is done and dusted, the competitors are out in the water for the event itself. Let’s hope the conditions hold.
