Teahupo’o has awoken from its slumber. With a swell on the horizon, Jacob Szekely and friend Skip McCullough felt the need to tempt fate at the fabled break. “We decided last second to hop on a flight to Tahiti,” said Szekely from the airport. “There’s a huge southern hemisphere swell heading to Teahupo’o. It’s going to be four days of pumping six to 12-foot surf, maybe even a 15-foot-plus day.”
However, when they arrived, it initially appeared to be all smoke and no fire. Zeke and Skip joined Josh Kerr, Sierra Kerr, Molly Picklum, Lennox Smith and others in the lineup, only to be disappointed. “We surfed for about an hour and a half this morning. There were like 22 guys out, hardly any waves and then the wind came up and everybody went in.” However, Szekely stayed out and found his patience rewarded. “Then out of nowhere it glassed off and I got out there and had a mental solo session,” he continued.
Of course, the entire crew immediately rushed back out to capitalize on the gift from Poseidon and the results are pretty wild. “I’ve never seen waves this good in my entire life,” said Szekely. “You’re in for quite the treat.”
