Jack Robinson has long been a guy to watch. Well before he was on tour, he was being touted as the next big thing. When he was just a little guy with a funny haircut, he was surfing some seriously heavy waves with a certain aplomb that was far beyond his years. Now that he’s grown and his hair is less… bowly, for lack of a better word, he’s living up to the hype.
Growing up in Western Australia lends itself to becoming a certain type of surfer, and one needs to look no further than Jack to figure out what kind: the kind that likes powerful waves. Since he could be considered a Margaret River local and the Margaret River event is currently underway, the WSL hooked up with him for the latest episode of The Lineup.
They talk about a lot of things, including the much-contested mid-season cut, which is being held at Margaret River. Since Robinson placed third at Bells, he’s made the cut, which is likely a welcome weight off his shoulders. Also on the conversation docket is a look back at his road from Margaret River to the Championship Tour, how he dealt with intense hype from the media, fans, and sponsors from a very young age, Gabriel Medina’s return at G-Land, and a whole lot more.
