Jack Robinson is officially on a heater. The West Oz native has now gone back to back, winning Margaret River and now the Quiksilver G-Land Pro while vaulting into the number two spot on the rankings. It’s an unprecedented turnaround given that Robinson was on the verge of missing the mid-season cut only a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile Johanne Defay finally broke through in 2022 with a win of her own after even fifths at every event so far. She also made a big move in the rankings, shooting up to number three.
Speaking of rankings, on the men’s side, Filipe Toledo still has a firm grasp on the number one spot after losing to Robinson in the finals, as mentioned JackO is in the two spot, followed by John John Florence (whose knee is now a serious question mark). Kanoa Igarashi is at number four with Ethan Ewing rounding out the top five.
On the women’s side, Carissa Moore, who went down to Defay in the final at G-Land, sits atop the rankings followed by Brisa Hennessey, Defay, Tyler Wright, and Tatiana Weston-Webb.
Despite lackluster swell for G-Land, there were some sparkly moments (see above and below). The tour now heads to EL Salvador and Punta Roca June 12. Stay tuned for more coverage.
