Italo Ferreira is a freak of nature. In the past few years, he has ratcheted up the level of his surfing to an almost unbelievable degree. Of course, there’s no teacher like experience, and that’s especially true in surfing. The more you surf a particular wave, the more you learn to understand it. You begin to have an inkling of what might happen before it happens. Apparently, Italo Ferreira has some sort of freakish connection to The Box. The wave you see above was his first-ever at Western Australia’s notorious slab. That’s right. No free surfs, no events, no nothing. The very first time he caught a wave there, this happened.
