How did we miss this? A Florida surfer waiting for waves at New Smyrna Beach recently didn’t get her leg chomped, or her board bit in half or worse. She got slapped in the face. Which was all-together more rude, but less damaging to one’s body.
“I had no idea it was coming,” said Kara Haun of the rather large spinner shark, which grow to between six and nine feet. “So, I was laying on my board faced down, just looking out into the ocean waiting on the next wave, and it landed on top of me really, really heavy and hit me in the face and knocked me off my board.”
Haun ended up with bruising around her eye. But we’re pretty sure she’d take that over a punctured artery any day of the week.
