The Inertia

What would it look like if Kelly Slater Wave Co. designed Willy Wonka’s chocolate river? Well, Dane Reynold’s Chapter 11 TV finally answered that age-old question in the latest “Daily Exports” release. The seven-minute edit from the Ventura-based outlet has a bevy of sepia-tinted waves being ridden on March 7. “Everyone got sick,” reads the caption.

Getting sick from runoff into the ocean is no joke, especially after the type of heavy rain we got in California this year. “If the water is brown from sediment it isn’t a good idea to go out,” said Rick Wilson, a senior staff scientist at Surfrider, in an interview with us about the phenomena, “If it’s brown, turn around.” The rule of thumb is to wait 72 hours after a rain before going back in.

That being said, Dane and co. flying in the face of danger and generally held water safety guidelines did produce some pretty incredible imagery. Maybe they even found Augustus Gloop down there.

The edit includes Mr. Reynolds, Matt McCabe, Jake Kelley, Micky Clarke, K-bone, Josiah Amico, Andrew Jacobson, Mikey Wright and Lungi Slabb.
