Break out the English Subtitles for this one
(unless you speak French, that is. I don’t). Two-time French National Surfing Champion Ian Fontaine stars in Brumenn, as he takes a trip, his first actually, to the island of Tahiti, not only to “surf Teahupo’o,” but, as Ian says himself, “to become a better surfer.”

I’ve always subscribed to the notion that surfing a wide variety of boards can help you become a better surfer, giving you a bunch of reference points to compare and understand the subtle – or not so subtle – differences between, say, a fish and a thruster. If the same holds true for different types of waves, Ian Fontaine is on the right track.
